Big feelings.
Small steps.

A hands-on tool to help children name their feelings, try a coping strategy, and discover what helps.

More than a feelings chart

Build skills.
One check-in at a time.

With movable arrows, the reusable Mood Menu turns each check-in into an interactive opportunity to notice body signals, name emotions, and explore what helps.

With repeated use and adult guidance, children practice the skills that support emotional regulation—one check-in at a time.

Simple by design

Check in. Try a tool. Check in again.

01

Check in with yourself

Notice your energy using the large battery. Turn the arrow toward comfortable or uncomfortable, then point toward the feeling that fits.

02

Choose a strategy and try it

Explore the menu’s 12 coping choices. Choose a strategy and give it a try.

03

Check in again

Notice how you feel now. Did the strategy help a lot, a little, or not yet? Keep using it, try another strategy, or ask someone you trust for support.

At home and at school

Keep it within reach.

For everyday check-ins, transitions, and moments when feelings are hard to put into words.

Practice together during calm moments so your child becomes familiar with the routine and can use it when they need support.

Meet the founder

Hi, I’m Kali.

Kali Gschwind · Founder of Brightsense

Nationally Certified School Psychologist
Master’s in Education · Specialist in School Psychology

For the past decade, I’ve worked with children, families, and educators to help make sense of learning, behavior, emotions, and support needs. As a mom of two, I also know that a tool needs to be practical in the moments you actually need it.

I created Brightsense to bring those two worlds together: professional knowledge and everyday family life. My goal is to make thoughtful, hands-on tools that help children understand themselves and find what helps—with support from the adults who care for them.

A few helpful details

Before you join the list.

Is the Mood Menu a physical product?

Yes. It is a physical trifold menu with illustrated pages and movable arrows. It is designed for hands-on use at home, in classrooms, and in support settings.

What does it help children practice?

Noticing energy, naming feelings, choosing and trying coping strategies, and checking in again to reflect on what helped. Adults can model and guide the routine.

Does every strategy need to work?

No. Different strategies can help at different times. The follow-up check-in gives children a way to say whether something helped a lot, a little, or not yet—and decide what to try next.

Is there a teaching curriculum to go with the Mood Menu?

Yes. A companion curriculum with seven guided lessons will be available in an optional, higher-priced Mood Menu + Lessons bundle. The lessons help adults introduce the routine and guide children through practicing body awareness, identifying emotions, and exploring coping strategies.

The Mood Menu will also be available on its own, with brief getting-started directions included.
